In Between Space II
Oil on canvas, 90 × 60 cm, 2024.
This painting explores the fragile space between presence and absence, individuality and belonging. Anonymous figures emerge within an architectural environment, suspended between the visible world and an inner landscape of memory and emotion.
In developing the work, I move between observed forms and imagined environments, allowing architectural structures and human presences to exist in an uncertain space between reality and abstraction. I build the composition through layers of oil paint, colour and texture. Some forms become more defined while others remain ambiguous, creating tension between closeness and separation.
The work reflects my ongoing interest in belonging, displacement and transformation. I am drawn to the experience of living between places, memories and identities, connected to different worlds without feeling entirely part of one. Through painting, I give visual form to these emotional spaces and invite viewers to consider the places they carry within themselves.
